The Board of Trustees of Anne Arundel Community College, pursuant to the Annotated Code of Maryland Section 16-407.2, hereby establishes the Anne Arundel Community College Police Force.  Anne Arundel Community College police officers, upon being certified as Maryland Law Enforcement Officers vested with police powers provided by law, shall have authority to exercise these powers only on property owned, leased, or operated by or under the control of Anne Arundel Community College and as otherwise authorized by law.   
  
The Anne Arundel Community College Police Force shall at all times maintain: 

(1) accreditation with an established public safety/law enforcement credentialing authority such as the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators or the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. 
 
(2) regulations, standards, and best practices governing its police officers' qualifications, training, education, human and public relations, experience, and performance, and general operation and conduct of the police force and the police officers similar to those regulations, standards, and best practices adopted by the Maryland State Police Department. 

The Board of Trustees hereby authorizes the president, or his/her designee, to establish appropriate regulations, standards, and best practices governing the operation of the college police force as required by this policy.   
 
This policy shall become effective on October 2, 2014.
