Interests

Matthew Patton, Ph.D., is passionate about the open science movement and its potential to enhance the quality and reliability of scientific research. He is particularly excited about how better science can lead to breakthroughs in therapies for common mental illnesses such as depression and generalized anxiety.

A Little More

Patton has been a passionate educator at AACC since 2012, where he teaches Statistics in Social and Behavioral Sciences (PSY-250), Personality Psychology (PSY-212), Social Psychology (PSY-223) and Introduction to Psychology (PSY-111).

What Patton loves most about teaching at AACC is working with first-generation college students. He finds it rewarding to watch them discover new opportunities and gain confidence in their abilities. He is inspired by the diverse backgrounds of AACC students and how much the students learn from one another. "Their different ages, life experiences and diversity of backgrounds really give them opportunities to grow from their work together," Patton said.

Patton’s dedication to science education and his passion for mental health research make him valuable resource and mentor for students at AACC.
