ENG-226 Ethnic American Literature

Explore ethnicity and its relationship to race, culture, and religion. Study ethnic literatures of the United States, including readings from African American, Latino/Latina, Asian American, Native American, Arab American, and Jewish American literatures. Read poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and drama by ethnic American writers and discuss these works in their literary and historical contexts, including the social and political circumstances out of which they arise. Prerequisite: ENG 101/ENG 101A or permission of department. Note: Also offered as ENG 226H; credit is not given for both ENG 226 and ENG 226H.
