STP-510 Central Sterile Processing

Central Sterile Processing Technician | This program teaches students to handle medical equipment in a safe and sanitary manner. Topics covered in the course include methods of sterilization, decontamination, storage, packaging, and distribution of both sterile and non-sterile medical instruments. Students learn to assess the condition of medical and surgical equipment for sterility and proper function, which can include removing instruments for maintenance or replacement. CEUs issued. $2,050 includes $50 fee. Prerequisites: 18 years old and High School Diploma or GED. Must attend an orientation. Note: Full attendance and passing the final exam required. English as a Second Language students must earn a composite score of 310 or better on the Level of English Proficiency exam, or successfully complete Capstone Level ESL coursework. Students must attend an information session prior to enrolling in the program. Go to www.aacc.edu/job-training and click the link for Sterile Processing. Students must apply to take externships: A limited number of externships are offered, and students will be selected. If selected students must register and pay for externships: STP-505, STP-506, STP-507 and STP-508. Student must have at least an 8th grade reading comprehension to be successful in the class. Additional cost for scrubs and shoes. Exam fee not included.
