AACC Open House

Connect to your community's college whether you're a high school student looking to start a degree, already in the workforce and interested in changing or advancing your career, or just interested in taking a class for personal enrichment.

Jenkins Gymnasium

Speak with faculty, staff, students and event volunteers. Enjoy the company of SWOOP, the AACC Mascot! Take a tour of the Arnold campus and learn more about myriad of educational opportunities that Anne Arundel Community has to offer, including more than 100 degrees and certificates! Participate in hands-on learning and live demonstration from various departments.

Both the Cashier’s Office and the Records Office will stay opened from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for anyone interesting in registering for a Continuing Education course or for students who would like to register for winter term.


Event Details

From 5:30-8p.m., you'll get to see, hear, taste and experience much of what AACC has to offer! Enjoy a variety of presentations, performances and demonstrations in the gymnasium! The following presentations and interactive displays will be available from 5:30-8p.m. unless other times are noted.

Peformances

Sit back and relax as you listen to selections from the AACC Small Jazz Combo and World Music Ensemble.


Transportation Hub

Learn about CDL licensing, motorcycle safety and electric cars. Vehicles will be on display in the outdoor lot beside the gym. Plus speak to our staff about our trainings.


Virtual Reality Stations

Participate in stations that will immerse you in a virtual world! Want to know what it's like to be a welder? Experience virtual reality welding using a Vertex 360 Mobile Unit. Or, try on goggles provided by AACC Health Sciences that will simulate an “under the influence” affect. Take part in other virtual reality exhibits by AACC Science and Technology.


Health Displays

  • Health Facts and Trivia: Test your knowledge of the human body. Participate in Human Body Trivia where you'll learn cool, yet somewhat surprising, facts about your anatomy.
  • Personal Health Stations: Get a personal health and fitness assessment. Take a break and enjoy a free, seated massage provided by AACC Massage Therapy students!
  • Dental Demos: Considering a dental career? Observe a Dental Assisting demonstration on Dexter, the AACC mannequin, who is used to teach students enrolled in the Dental Assisting program.
  • CPR Training: Find out how to renew your CPR certification while you learn CPR techniques through a hands-on demonstration.

Did you know AACC’s Nursing program remains #1 in the State of Maryland? Learn about this award-winning program, in addition to other health-related programs including Paramedic, Surgical Technology, and Addictions Counseling. You'll be able to speak to program staff.


Technology Displays

Are you interested in science and technology? Stop by one of our many program tables where you'll be able to see first-hand, current cyber threats, try your hand at tabletop mechatronics, take a look at a drone display or learn to program Arduino devices.

Those interested in our Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management and Landscape Design programs can learn more through interactive CAD Stations and hands-on landscape design activities.


Other Fun Activities

  • Have you ever tried liquid nitrogen foods? “Sample a Taste Test” by the AACC Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute.
  • Try your hand at the Roulette Wheel and Blackjack table with dealer demonstrations from the AACC Casino Dealer School.
  • Pick up floral design tips and tricks through hands-on demonstrations by the Lifelong Learning.
  • It’s Veteran’s Week! Visit our Veteran’s Resource Center presentation.
  • Learn about intercollegiate athletics through hands-on athletic activities with current AACC athletes.
  • Legal Studies Institute will feature a social media photo booth with gavel and gown props!
  • Participate in the Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Crime Sketch demonstration.

Campus Tours

The Flashlight Campus Tours feature stops at each building and a charismatic presentation highlighting our Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Command Center in the Center for Applied Learning and Technology Building (CALT).

Tour Schedule

Tours will be available at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a walk around campus as you “Light your future educational pathway" at AACC. Sign up to participate at the Open House.


Student Services will be open for one-on-one advising, registration and more. While here, you'll have the opportunity to speak candidly with faculty member specialists and learn first-hand, about the ‘ins and outs’ of applying to college, including admissions, financial aid, completing a FAFSA, disability support and counseling, advising and retention. Registration will be available for Continuing Education courses, as well as winter term for students. 

The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged.
